Bower's Encyclopedia

SALE! We have two copies of Bower's Enclyclopedia of Automated musical instruments. This is a fantastic item for serious collectors, as almost every musical item ever produced is touched upon. This book is no longer in print, and is highly sought after. They are in VG condition, no water damage and no smell. One is a 1979 printing, the other is a 1983 issue. We offer these at $65 each plus media mail shipping rate which would be $6.

3 lunger Pump
Mystery pump back side

Here is a 3 pneumatic suction pump up for sale. These were used in pianos manufactured by the Automatic Musical Co. in Binghamtom, NY. This company eventually became the Link Piano Co. One of the earliest models made by AMC was called "Old Reliable" being a very basic machine operated from an endless roll located to the under the keyboard on the right side. These pianos were marketed by several companies under different names, Calle, Lyon Healey and possibly others.

The closest other manufacturer that used a similar pump was the early Coinolas / Victor that used a four bellows version of the same basic design possibly from the same vendor. The drive pulley styles are not consistent, some have S shaped spokes while others straight spokes.

It has wooden connecting rods and a cast iron frame.  It measures 15 inches at the widest point and stands 14 inches tall. Each pneumatic has a seperate nipple, but the top one is damaged and broken off.  It turns freely, and appears to be all there.  Make us an offer, we would like to move it on outta here.  Thanks again to Dana Johnson for the valuable information on this pump.

Here we are offering a reprint of the leabarjan roll perforator manual. It is an incredible 32 page reference for the making of piano rolls. This item is currently available  for $21.95 plus $3 shipping.

Ori-Thematic Roll cutting Manual

You are looking at the Ori-thematic roll cutting manual originally published in 1979 & 1981. It is no longer in print. This forty eight page booklet shows the entire process of hand making rolls from building a fixture used to hold and index the paper to proper marking and punching the paper.  Time scale charts and a section on music theory and reading sheet music helps to describe the process. Note scales for both 65 note and 88 note rolls are included.  It also outlines the process to make 88 note duplicates of 65 note rolls.

Making your own roll would be a time consuming process, but this booklet covers all of the techniques in detail.  There are numerous examples of converting sheet music notation to the paper roll. Many tips are given to insure sucess and to arrange rolls just like the original roll makers did.

We offer this manual from time to time on ebay.  We can offer it to you directly for $21.95 plus $3 shipping.

Weber Unika Rotary Pump
closeup of drive
This is a pump assembly for a Weber Unika Orchestrion. It comes complete with a drive pulley and chain. It is a rebuild, but not very recent. It turns freely, and shows no knock, but it is also not under load. It is a large pump, stands about 20" high and the base board is nearly 4 feet long.  We can arrange to have this delivered for a modest fee through our sister division; if it's on the way, we can do it nearly for free! Call to discuss and to make an offer.
